NEW! UP-TRACKING ZONE

NEW! Up-Tracking Zone at Kimberley Alpine Resort!

We are excited to announce that Kimberley Alpine Resort will officially be allowing up-tracking at the resort this winter! Up-tracking (skinning, up-hill skiing, ski-touring, etc.) is a great way to get some fresh air and to earn your turns.

To make it a safe and fun activity for all involved - including up-trackers, downhill skiers, and resort staff, including equipment operators - we ask that all up-trackers review and follow the rules & regulations below.

Up-tracking (Skinning) Rules & Regulations

  • The designated up-track is on the Boundary run up to the Kootenay Haus.  No up-trackers allowed anywhere else on the mountain at any time.
  • Return back down only by the Boundary run outside of regular ski resort operating hours of 9 am and 4 pm.
  • Up-trackers are required to have a valid KAR lift ticket/season pass, or a $5 Day Up-Track Pass on them at all times. Day Up-Track Passes are not valid for riding chairlifts. Un-scanned RCR Rockies Cards do not qualify as a valid ticket.  Up-tracking without a valid ticket, or riding lifts with a Day Up-Track Pass, may result in loss of up-tracking privileges.
  • There is a designated up-trackers’ parking area on North Star Drive, on the way up to the Nordic Centre. No up-tracking from the base area across the bridge at any time.
  • The up-track zone is open from 6 am to 8 pm.  No up-tracking outside of these hours.
  • These rules are in effect from 7 days before ski resort opening until 7 days after closing.
  • When traveling up or down within the ski resort boundaries follow the Skier’s Responsibility Code, and follow these additional guidelines for up-track travel:
    • Stay to the edge of ski trails.
    • Do not hike or stand in the middle of a ski trail.
    • Observe posted signs, warnings, and trail closures.
    • Be alert for and yield to downhill skiers.
    • Yield to and/or avoid all ski area machinery.
    • Never stop in high-traffic zones, where you are likely to obstruct a trail, or where you are not visible to downhill traffic.
  • Before and after daylight hours, reflective clothing is recommended. Headlamps are required to be worn and turned on while up-tracking after dark or before dawn.
  • Route will be designated with red diamonds with 'Up-Track' printed on them.
  • Ski patrol (250-432-0303) is not available outside the regular ski resort operating hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. At other times please dial 911 in case of emergency.
  • Dogs are not allowed. Fat bikes are not allowed. Sledding is prohibited.
  • Failure to follow these rules and regulations may result in loss of up-track privileges.
