Michael Bernard Fitzgerald concert & dance party at Kimberley Confernence Centre

Wednesday, 09 January 2019 by Cali Burk

Calgary singer-songwriter Michael Bernard Fitzgerald will be bringing a quartet to the Kimberley Conference Centre on February 16th for a concert and dance party that is sure to appeal to the young and the young-at-heart.

MBF, as he is popularly known, is a rising star in the alternative/folk/soul genre of popular music with an impressive collection of albums, EPs, and singles to his name. For much of the past decade he has toured North America, Europe and the UK, appearing at clubs, theaters, and festivals including the Calgary, Ottawa, and Winnipeg Folk Music Festivals in Canada. MBF has appeared on stage with Bryan Adams, Joel Plaskett, Steve Winwood, Third Eye Blind, and Ben Harper among others.

Fitzgerald plays a Gibson J45 acoustic guitar upon which he composes many of his songs. He is inspired by the likes of Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Feist, Souls of Mischief and Mason Jennings. His stated goal is to pursue his craft as honestly as possible – devoid of smoke and mirrors.

The concert & dance party at the Kimberley Conference Centre has been arranged by Kimberley Arts Council’s Live at Studio 64 committee member Peter Kearns in liaison with the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. It will coincide with Family Day at Kimberley Alpine Resort and organizers are hoping to attract visiting skiers as well as locals to what is expected to be an upbeat and lively event. Tickets, priced $28 for Kimberley Arts Council members, $30 for non-members, are available at Centre 64 (250-427-4919) or online.

Kimberley Alpine Resort & College of the Rockies Collaborate for Gear Box Repair

Tuesday, 11 December 2018 by Cali Burk
Kimberley, B.C – at Kimberley Alpine Resort and Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, we value education as an extremely important asset, not just in everyday life but also as it’s a key component to operating our resort as safely as possible as safety is another top priority of ours.  As such, we were very proud to be able to partner with College of the Rockies this fall in a mutually beneficial project – our gear box repair was not only necessary for our winter operations, but also provided students an invaluable opportunity to have a hands on learning experience.

Did you know – our North Star gear box weighs over 23 thousand pounds!  Making it quite a feat to move, we had a crane come in from Lethbridge to extract the gear box from the top of the quad – it was then delivered to the College of the Rockies who generously donated use of their new state of the art Mill Wright Facility shop.  College of the Rockies students were then able to observe the repair and ask questions while the work was being done by a technician who was brought here from Europe to manage the repair, along with our resort maintenance staff.  The whole repair took about 2 weeks and saw 2 of the main gears replaced – weighing 8000 and 2000 pounds respectively, bearings and seals were also replaced.  After the repair was completed, Kimberley Alpine Resort donated the old gears to College of the Rockies for a continued learning experience.

We’re extremely appreciative for the partnership with College of the Rockies on this important project and look forward to the upcoming winter season!

Please review rules & regulations and see where our uptracking zone will be on our website.

Get The Most Out Of Your Swing – Golf Balls Travel Further in the Highest City in Canada

Wednesday, 27 June 2018 by Cali Burk

There are many reasons why one golf in Kimberley, B.C, whether it’s about the course, the town or the people – whatever your reason is, these might be a few more to consider;

Top courses to play
Trickle Creek Golf Resort – voted #1 course in the Kimberley & Cranbrook region by the B.C. Golfer’s Dream survey in 2016 and again this season!  If golfing the #1 course in the region doesn’t tickle your fancy then we don’t know what will.

Escape the heat
Kimberley is cooler (in temperature that is).  As well as being the highest city in Canada, Kimberley is located in the mountains, providing some nice cool mountain breezes on those hotter days.  Don’t get us wrong, there are hot days, but compared to other nearby places (i.e – Okanagan area) Kimberley is definitely cooler!

Balls travel further
Kimberley, B.C is the highest city in Canada and no we don’t mean THAT kind of high.  We mean altitude high and it’s a fact that golf balls do in fact travel further in higher altitudes.  The science behind it is all about air density – air density decreases and elevation increases which means the ball can fly more easily through the air.  So, if you’re looking to get more out of your swing – it’s time to try golfing in Kimberley!  Don’t buy it?  Well listen to a real scientist discuss higher altitudes and how it effects your game here on the Titleist website.

Take in the mountain views
Trickle Creek Golf Resort is frequently referred to as ‘a golfers dream’ with ‘dramatic elevation changes, peak-filled horizons, gorgeous white-silica bunkers, undulating greens and a solid Les Furber design add up to an unforgettable day of golf’.  And it really is all that and more, just look at this photo and try to argue this point;

Animals and more
Don’t come just for the golf or the amazing landscape, come for the wildlife experience as well.  Trickle Creek Golf Resort and Kimberley, B.C are home to friendly deer, birds, cute ground gophers and chipmunks as well as (not so friendly) bears, who all stop by once and a while to check out your score.  While you always need to practice safety around wildlife and be bear aware, there is something amazing about seeing a mama bear and her cubs take a stroll across the green you’re aiming at, just sit back and take it all in (from a safe distance).  Get a sampling of the wildlife you might see on our previous blog – ‘The keenest spectators, the wildlife of Trickle Creek‘.

A round (or two) after your round
Kimberley has a great ‘apres’ scene – whether it’s golf or ski season!  At Trickle Creek Golf Resort, The Clubhouse offers a large patio facing the 18th green with amazing food and great drink options, or try out Buckhorn & Main Mountain Eatery for a view of the ski resort during the summer – it’s located just down the road at Trickle Creek Lodge.  Plus Buckhorn & Main have just release their new summer flavours menu which features the incredible Smokey Bacon Burger!  Venturing into town gives you even more options include Overtime Beerworks for some craft beer action, Pedal & Tap for a place the locals love as well as Stonefire Pizza for a family meal or Sullivan’s Pub for some keno fun and pub style fare.

The delicious food at The Clubhouse
